Alex Ekwueme University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State
In Ebonyi state, there is only one federal university and is named Alex Ekwueme University. Since its inception in 2011, the school has retained its hallowed place among the comity of federal universities In Nigeria.
Alex Ekwueme University was initially known as Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ikwo till it was named in honor of Nigeria’s former civilian president in the person of Alex Ekwueme on February 2, 2018. AE-FUNAI has a total land area of 438 hectares.
Presently at AE-FUNAI, the cutoff mark for medicine and surgery is 250, for law, 240, and for other major courses, 150. Generally, newly admitted students into the school of medicine and law are N51,000 while for the other departments, it ranges between N10,000 and N30,000.
Ebonyi State University, Abakiliki
Located in the state’s capital, Abakiliki, Ebonyi State University is one of the universities in Ebonyi State that was formed from the then Enugu State University’s Faculty of Health Sciences. As a result of being part and parcel of Ebonyi State University, ESUT’s medical school greatly benefited from the funding of the Ebonyi State government.
The Abakiliki Specialist Hospital which was first built to take care of victims of the then Guinea worm epidemic was redesigned to serve as the Ebonyi State University’s medical school.
EBSU’s school fees for both returning and old students are between N100,000 and N150,000. Normally, the cutoff mark for new entrants is 120, however, in the 2022/2023 academic session, the cutoff mark was raised to 180.
King David Umahi University of Medical Sciences, Uburu, Ebonyi State
Popularly known as KDRUMS, King David Umahi University of Medical Sciences is one of the state-owned universities in Ebonyi State. It was created to improve the training healthcare workers in west Africa and Africa as a whole receive.
Evangel University, Akaeze
Evangel University is the only university in Ebonyi State that is privately owned. It is a Christian tertiary institution that began operations in February 2012 when it received provisional accreditation, and the first set of lectures began on November 27.
The Assemblies of God-owned institution began in Okpoto before Akaeze was adopted as its permanent site. At EUA, the UTME cutoff mark is 160 except for Nursing which has a cutoff of 180. Apart from being ranked as Midwest’s 110 best regional universities, Evangel University school fees are pegged at N250,000 which thankfully can be paid in two installments.
