Full List of Universities in Zamfara State

It must have been shocking to hear that there are universities in Zamfara state, especially with its location in the Northwestern part of the country. In fact, it is believed that nearly eighty percent of the population is involved in agriculture, specifically products like maize, rice, groundnut, millet, and others.

It was formerly part of Sokoto state until 1996 when it was carved out as Zamfara state densely populated with the Hausa and Fulani people. Zamfara state is bordered to the east by Katsina State and to the west by Sokoto and Niger State.

Below are the two universities located in Zamfara state.

The Federal University, Gusau 

The Federal University, Gusau is also known as FUGUS. It is a public research university located in the capital city of Gusau in Zamfara state. It is one of the six universities the Federal government in Nigeria established in 2010.

FUGUS is also one of the universities in Zamfara that is accredited by the National Universities Council (NUC). Some of the courses offered at the Federal University, Gusau include Microbiology, Islamic Studies, Mathematics, History and International Studies, Education, and English Language.

Zamfara State University

One of the accredited universities in Zamfara State is Zamfara State University. There are about thirty-one courses offered at Zamfara State University which include: Physiotherapy, Physics, Public Health, and Statistics.

ZAMSU has different subject requirements for these approved courses. However, generally, every course offered at Zamfara State University requires English Language, Mathematics, and any other three subjects depending on the course.

Conclusion

There are only two universities in Zamfara state, one is federal, and the other is owned by the state government. While not too many students would opt to study in any of these universities, the article exposes the fact that the state isn’t entirely educationally bankrupt many people have believed it to be.
