For many, the question of what courses you can study without chemistry in Nigeria is a troubling one. In this article, we thrash out this question and even go a step further by mentioning the names of these Nigerian universities that offer courses you can study without chemistry.

Before we move on, if you will be admitted to study science courses in any Nigerian university, you must have made at least five credits in  English, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and of course, Chemistry in your senior certificate examinations, whether, it is the WASSCE or SSCE. 

However, some subjects like Agricultural Science and Geography are also considered replacements for Physics, Chemistry, or Biology. This is because, for some courses, certain universities do accept a D7 or E8 in any of Physics, Chemistry, or Biology.

First, on the list of courses you can study without chemistry in Nigerian university is Building Technology. This is because a huge chunk of Nigerian universities offering these courses doesn’t usually require chemistry; at best, these universities can accept a D7 or an E8.

For instance, at Ambrose Alli University, chemistry is not compulsory. Covenant University is almost similar. The university accepts credit passes in English, Mathematics, Physics, and any other two subjects from Chemistry, Geography, Further Mathematics, Biology, or even Agricultural Science.

Geography and Meteorology

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, UNIZIK, is an excellent example of a university that doesn’t stress chemistry as a requirement for students who want to study Geography and Meteorology.

UNIZIK requires Geography and other subjects from Mathematics, Physics, Fine arts, Biology, Economics, and Chemistry. This means that chemistry isn’t of great importance.

Physics

In addition to the requirements of Mathematics, English, and Physics, the University of Calabar prefer prospective students to have credit passes in either Biology or Chemistry.

The University of Ibadan requires prospective students of Physics at their school to have credit passes in Mathematics, English, Physics, and any other two science courses.

Architecture

For some universities, at least a credit pass in Architecture is necessary. For schools like Ambrose Alli University and Abia State University, chemistry isn’t a prerequisite to study Architecture.

For the University of Nigeria, prospective Architecture students require at least a credit pass in English, Mathematics, Physics, and two other science subjects from Woodwork, Fine Art, Geography, Technical drawing, and Building and Construction.

Quantity Surveying, Surveying, and Geoinformatics, Land Surveying

Like in Architecture, these courses mentioned above don’t require chemistry. Bells University requires a credit pass in English, Mathematics, and Physics.

The remaining credit passes can come from Technical drawing, Fine Arts, Biology, Building Construction, and Chemistry. Federal University of Technology, Akure, also has similar requirements.

Transport Management Technology

For this particular course, it is the only Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) that allows prospective students to study this course without chemistry.

In FUTMINNA, the subject requirement for Transport Management Technology is credit passes in English, Mathematics, Geography, Physics, and Economics.

Meteorology

At the Federal University of Technology, Akure, prospective Meteorology students need five credit passes in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, and other science subjects.

Conclusion

If there is anything worthy of note, it is the fact that the number of courses you can study without chemistry in Nigerian universities is relatively high. Therefore you shouldn’t lose hope if you don’t have at least a credit in Chemistry.
