Contrary to popular opinion, there are some cheapest private universities in Nigeria. We will be unveiling these universities, especially now that most federal universities in the country have a knack for going on extended periods of the strike.

It is safe to conclude that if the federal government fixed whatever issues the federal universities experience as pertains to staff salaries, many parents and guardians won’t even fancy the idea of private universities in the first place.

Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin

This Kwara-based university was established to combine both the furtherance of Islamic values and academic excellence. The minimum school fee students at the university pay is N213,000. Al-Hikmah was established in 2005 and presently has two campuses namely: Ilorin and Igbaja. 

Ajayi Crowther University

The south-western university opened its door for admission in 2005 and currently has four faculties namely: Faculty of Law, Faculty of Social sciences, Faculty of Natural Science, and Faculty of Management Sciences. The current Vice-Chancellor is Professor Dapo Asaju Folorunsho. Students of the institution are expected to pay at least N200,000 as tuition fees.

Obong University, Obong Ntak

Formerly known as the African College of Management, Obong University was established in 1997. The university has both the Natural and Applied science faculty that offer certifications in Computer Science, Microbiology, and Biochemistry. There is also the Faculty of Arts and Humanities that offers certifications in English Studies and Religious Studies.

Excluding the accommodations fees, students are expected to pay at least N90,000 as school fees.

Crescent University, Abeokuta

With school fees ranging from N230,000 and above, Crescent University is one of the cheapest private universities in Nigeria. Currently, Professor Ibrahim Gbajabiamila is serving in the capacity of Vice-Chancellor. The university is home to four faculties namely: Bola Ajibola faculties of Law, Environmental Science, Information and Communication Technology, College of Natural and Applied Science, and Social and Management Sciences.

Lead City University

Lead City University is one of the cheapest private universities in Nigeria. It is owned by Eduserve Consult and was established in 2005. They offer both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The minimum amount any of the students pay in this institution is N250,000.

Adeleke University

The Osun-based university is owned by politician cum businessman, Chief Deji Adeleke. It was established in 2011 and depending on the course, the least amount to be paid as school fees is N273,000. Professor Samuel Ekundayo is the current Vice-Chancellor of the university.

Wellspring University

Located in the ancient city of Benin, Edo State, Wellspring University is considered one of the cheapest private universities in Nigeria majorly because of its school fees. For instance, the least amount that can be paid as school fees is N190,000 depending on the course of study. They have just two faculties; the Faculty of Natural and Applied Science and the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences.

Rhema University, Aba

This is one of the cheapest private universities in the southeastern states. Its main campus is located in Aba, Abia State. Presently, the university offers both undergraduate and postgraduate study in the MBBS program, BSc. Nursing and even BSc. Anatomy. 

Oduduwa University, Ile-Ife

For parents and guardians who are perturbed about the exorbitant fees of most private universities, Oduduwa University offers a good option as one of the cheapest private universities in Nigeria with school fees ranging from N185,000 and above. It was established in 2009 and as of the time of writing, the university has four faculties.

Babcock University, Ilishan Remo

Of schools to make the list of cheapest private universities in Nigeria, not even a wild guess could have picked Babcock University. However, the school fees for some courses offered at the southwestern university is N122,349 per semester excluding hostel fees. Currently, the university has nine faculties with Professor Iheanyichukwu O. Okoro serving as the university’s Vice-Chancellor.
