Official List of All Accredited Medical Schools in Nigeria
The path to becoming a medical doctor in Nigeria demands that you go through any accredited medical schools in Nigeria. By implication, studying medicine despite being one of the lucrative medical courses in Nigeria in just any university wouldn’t cut it. The real question will also be if the university of your choice is accredited by Medical and Dental Practices in Nigeria (MDCN)
MDCN is the body appointed by the federal government to regulate the practices of doctors and dentists in Nigeria. The MDCN works side-by-side with the NUC in these regulatory practices.
Presently, only 37 government-owned universities in Nigeria have their medical schools part of the list of fully accredited medical schools in Nigeria. Bear in mind that there are two types of accreditation that can be appended to medical schools by MDCN. Medical schools in Nigeria can be fully accredited or can be partially accredited.
The sensitivity of this course of study and its attendant impact on Nigerian society has ensured that certain standards are employed to evaluate medical schools in Nigeria in line with international best practices. It is then based on the performance of any of these medical schools in Nigeria that they are awarded either full or partial accreditation.
