It is arguably considered to be the best polytechnic in the country. YABATECH as it is fondly called is situated in the mainland part of Lagos, Yaba. Yaba College of Technology was established in the year 1974.

YABATECH prides herself in being the first institution of higher education to kick off a centre for entrepreneurial and developmental studies which has close ties with many other popular acclaimed and internationally recognized centres of commerce and industry.

Amongst her many other achievements, Yaba College of Technology has been officially accredited by the country’s board responsible for the coordination of technical education in the shape of the National Board for Technical Education, Nigeria. YABATECH has an enrollment range that averages 16,000 students. 

It gets even much more interesting to find out that Yaba College of Technology, has produced many of Nigeria’s celebrated icons across all works of life. Ruth Kadiri, the popular Nigerian actress graduated from here.

Home to eight schools and thirty-four academic departments, Yaba College of Technology has a total of as many as sixty-four NABTEB recognized programmes, which after completion, the students are awarded degrees in National Diploma, Higher National Diploma and even post-Higher National Diploma.

Amongst the courses offered at YABATECH, are a bachelor’s degree in Technical and Vocational Education and postgraduate diplomas in engineering. This particular programme is conducted in liaison with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and also the popular Federal University of Technology, Akure.

What are the entry requirements to study any of the courses offered at YABATECH?

Like every other top institution of higher education in Nigeria, there are always a lot of applications by a good number of hopeful students seeking admission. This has contributed to the high level of competitiveness in actually securing a spot on the admission lists.

In lieu of this, the school follows a strict admission procedure to ensure that only those who are worthy of admission make it through. Yaba College of Technology doesn’t give admission to students who put them as the second choice during the registration process for the UTME.

If you are a prospective student, YABATECH requires that you have at least a score of 180 in the Joint Admission Matriculation Board’s UTME. This also means you should have the right subject combination as required by any of the courses offered at YABATECH. And of course, you must have at least five credits with Mathematics and English inclusive in any of WAEC/NECO/GCE/NABTEB.

Finally, you would need to purchase the POST-UTME form and sit for the examinations if you are an entry-level student. And, if you are a direct entry student, you would have to buy the DE form on the JAMB platform.
